Born in Geneva, after completing my bilingual German high school diploma, I initially studied political science studies before switching to mathematics and computer science at EPFL. I joined the Communication Systems section, where I thoroughly enjoyed discovering a world that was completely new to me and developed a genuine passion for complex systems.

I am currently pursuing a master’s degree in cybersecurity as part of the joint EPFL–ETH Zurich program. It was at the LiGHT lab that I began working on the security of artificial intelligence systems applied to healthcare, notably by contributing to the evaluation of Meditron, a model designed to assist physicians.

Today, I am continuing this work through the development of DISCO, an infrastructure that enables multiple medical institutions to collaborate on training artificial intelligence models while ensuring that patient data never leaves its institution of origin. This approach addresses a major challenge at the intersection of scientific, technological, ethical, and societal issues.

Thanks to the Foundation’s support, I am able to continue this work in Boston at Ariadne Labs, a research center affiliated with Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. There, I will complete my research internship and my master’s thesis, with the goal of strengthening the privacy safeguards of collaborative artificial intelligence systems against attacks that could extract patient data, while preserving their effectiveness and ease of use in daily clinical practice.

Being able to apply my knowledge to an issue that is so close to my heart, in a research environment like this one, will remain an unforgettable experience for me.

I am currently a physics student at EPFL, and I am preparing to begin a PhD in England. When I was younger, knowing which direction to take was very difficult for me. One thing, however, always remained present: a curious outlook on the world around me. I was drawn to science, without knowing exactly what place it would take in my life. I faced several setbacks, which were difficult, but deeply formative. EPFL intimidated me for a long time, and my decision to study physics came at the very last moment. These studies have been demanding and required many sacrifices. There were moments of doubt, sometimes even the desire to change direction. Despite this, I continued to believe in my dreams, and today I have the immense privilege of being supported by the Hubert Tuor Foundation.

This path has brought me much more than technical skills. Above all, it has changed my relationship with knowledge. I learned to look critically at what is presented as true. At school, we learn Newton’s laws, for example to describe an apple falling on someone’s head. Yet, when I heard about Einstein’s laws, I wondered how it was possible that we could be taught something that later seemed to be called into question!? What I later came to understand deeply marked me: a scientific theory never describes reality in an absolute way, but offers a model that allows us to make predictions within a certain domain of validity. In this sense, Newton’s laws are not simply “false”; they remain remarkably relevant.

My current orientation toward numerical methods and quantum physics is linked to this desire to better understand modern discoveries, while also maintaining a critical perspective on them. Quantum physics is paradoxical, sometimes disconcerting, and yet it is one of the best models we have for predicting the behavior of the microscopic world. If I take my role within the 242 community to heart, it is because, beyond my own education, I hope to reinvest the knowledge I will acquire into education and sharing. I would like to help pass on this curiosity, but also this essential caution: learning to question, to doubt intelligently, and never to accept too quickly what is presented as obvious.

After completing my medical studies at the University of Lausanne, I continued my clinical training in the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetology and Metabolic Diseases at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV). Throughout my studies and early clinical experience, I took part in research projects investigating the role of oxidative stress in the thyroid gland.

Wishing to deepen my training in fundamental and translational research, I undertook an MD-PhD thesis and am now entering my fourth year. I am conducting my thesis in the laboratory of Professor Pedro Herrera at the University of Geneva (UNIGE), where I study the mechanisms that allow cells to change their identity. More specifically, I aim to develop new strategies to promote the reprogramming of pancreatic α cells, which produce glucagon, into insulin-producing cells, a promising new approach for the treatment of type 1 diabetes.

Beyond my clinical engagement in endocrinology and my involvement in promoting hematopoietic stem cell donation during my studies, I have always been fascinated by how cellular identity is maintained and how it can change during development and disease. This thesis therefore perfectly combines my scientific and clinical interests.

After completing my thesis, I will continue both my clinical training and my research projects at the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG), with the goal of obtaining my specialist title in endocrinology and diabetology.

As Chief Resident in Internal Medicine at the Geneva University Hospitals, I aspire to the very best for our patients. Today, I am convinced that this excellence is achieved not only through the quality of our medical care but also through thoughtful reflection on the management of our systems, our hospitals, and our care teams. With this in mind, I have developed a growing interest in healthcare management and wish to further my training in this field.

Thanks to the generous support of the Hubert Tuor Foundation, I will have the opportunity to pursue a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. Going beyond the strictly medical framework, this program will allow me to build academic expertise in areas such as team dynamics, change management, and strategic communication—essential tools to anticipate the future transformations of the healthcare system and to adapt hospital operations to the challenges of tomorrow.

Beyond financial support and the training opportunity, the Hubert Tuor Foundation also opens the door to a network of ambitious young professionals driven by solidarity and mutual support. It is therefore with deep gratitude and genuine enthusiasm that I join the community of 242 members, with the hope of in turn contributing to this spirit of sharing and carrying forward the momentum I have received.

Receiving the HTF scholarship as the situation in Gaza was worsening came as more than an opportunity, it saved me from the war allowing me to remain alive and aspire to success. It was both a dream come true and a lifebuoy. It allowed me to begin a new life and it meant a brighter future for my family.

My path to this scholarship has been marked by challenges and obstacles, yet my work in Gaza – providing psychological support to individuals and groups – has also made me an independent woman and has enabled me to develop human relation skills working with people in times of crisis. I chose this scholarship because it represents an ideal opportunity to study psychology in an advanced academic environment that supports research and practical application.

I have a great passion for understanding human behaviour and contributing to the improvement of mental health, and this scholarship will help me achieve that goal. This is why I have enrolled for the master in neuroscience at the University of Geneva. More specifically, I am interested in speech disorders and the issue of stuttering. Stuttering can be caused by psychological reasons emerging from the environment, as in cases of crises or war. I would like to help improve the diagnosis and intervention for patients who suffer from stuttering.

I believe this scholarship will provide me with the scientific foundation and necessary training to become a psychologist capable of making a positive impact in people’s lives. I am confident in my ability to overcome the challenges I may face and to provide specialized psychological services in an accessible and approachable manner, ensuring effective and compassionate support for affected individuals and their families. In this, I believe I share in the values of the HTF and I am very grateful to everyone who supported me.

My life path has not always made access to higher education easier because of many obstacles. Continuing this long-standing ambition, a true thread of my efforts and patience, I am proud today to continue the adventure towards the master’s degree in human medicine at the Geneva Faculty thanks to the support of the Hubert Tuor Foundation.

Indeed, receiving the Foundation’s support represents a crucial stage in my academic career. This support allows me to stabilize my living conditions, which is an essential element for the success of my university studies that I have long fought for. So I will continue to build the foundation for a personal and professional future in which I believe. It is a real recognition of my hard work and perseverance, and I am very honoured.

In my future role as a doctor, I wish to make available all the resources that have shaped me so far for the good of others and to become an active member of human society. Studying medicine, the human being, his body and his psyche requires a constant surpassing of oneself and an eternal questioning of its limits and the world around us. As a Life Sciences Engineering student at Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL), I am going on an exchange year to finish my Bachelor’s at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University, USA. The help from the Hubert Tuor Foundation was vital to make this dream come true, and will allow me to fully benefit from the research environment at Johns Hopkins. My interests lie in computational biology, more precisely in how computational methods can further our understanding of diseases at the genetic, regulational and protein level.

Originally from Lebanon, my first years at EPFL proved to be quite fruitful. I maintained a high academic standard while involving myself in student associations and student-led projects. Notably, I became the leader of the bioinformatics team for the Genorobotics student project, dealing with DNA sequencing data and species prediction. In my role as External Relations Coordinator for “SV industry”, I also organized career orientation events and round-tables around subjects relevant to the life sciences. These engagements revealed my passion for the intersection of engineering and biology with fields like protein design, genome analysis and organoid development standing out. Courses at EPFL have also aroused my interest in entrepreneurship and innovation management.

While in the United States, I intend to further explore academia by performing research within one of university’s labs. The diverse courses I will take at Johns Hopkins’ Whiting School of Engineering will help validate my interests in preparation for a Master’s in Life Sciences Engineering. I am thrilled to be part of 242’s network of inspiring and motivated members, and can’t thank the foundation enough for this opportunity!

I am honored and grateful to have been chosen as a recipient of a grant from Fondation Hubert Tuor. This remarkable opportunity serves as an encouragement and support as I begin my master’s thesis journey at Harvard University, collaborating with Zürich based Magnes AG, an innovative spin-off of ETH Zürich.

As a Master’s student in Medical Technology and a Bachelor’s graduate in Health Sciences and Technology from ETH, I focus my research on biomechanics, human gait analysis and the application of modern technologies to improve the lives of people facing mobility challenges.

My master’s thesis project focuses on exploring the potential of Magnes’ innovative ‘Nushu’ shoe in rehabilitation. With a specific focus on improving mobility in patients with walking difficulties, such as those caused by degenerative diseases, and reducing the risk of falls, I am committed to advancing medical technology and providing solutions to real-world challenges encountered by patients.

I commit myself to actively supporting the Foundation by increasing its visibility and maintaining its values as well as supporting other members of the 242 community, ensuring its continued success and impact.

Thanks to the work of the Foundation, students and researchers like myself, are able to pursue research and contribute to the field of medicine, science and technology and we all remain forever grateful to the Foundation, its President, Sylvie Tuor, and its comittee, for the support in this pursuit. Thanks to the Hubert Tuor Foundation, I will be able to take the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research course at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. This 9-month course will enable me to acquire a solid foundation in research methodology. We will discuss various research formats, statistics, and ethical issues encompassing research.

This will allow me to participate in, and perhaps one day lead, studies focused on populations with limited access to healthcare. I am very interested in the question of access to healthcare and its quality, especially in low-income countries. I would like to use the research training obtained through the Principles and Practice of Clinical Research program to dedicate myself to research projects aimed at improving the access and the quality of healthcare for these populations.

Being able to use my skills in this context is one of my lifelong goals. What attracted me to the Hubert Tuor Foundation is that it also shares this dream of ensuring access to healthcare and equity in health through research and technological interventions. Receiving a scholarship from the Hubert Tuor Foundation will allow me to achieve this goal, and I am infinitely grateful for it.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Hubert Tuor Foundation, which played a crucial role in initiating my master’s journey in environmental sciences.

My academic journey began at the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Damascus in 2014, but circumstances forced me to leave my ‘home’ at the end of 2015 due to political/security reasons. Immigrating to Switzerland was a fresh start, and despite the challenges, my determination led me to resume my studies in chemistry at the University of Geneva after successfully passing equivalence exams (ECUS) in 2018.

As a young Kurdish woman, I faced realities such as immigration, ethnic racism, and actively engaged in volunteering. These experiences strengthened my commitment to contribute to the well-being of people in similar situations.

That’s why I chose to specialize in environmental sciences (an interdisciplinary master’s), where chemistry becomes a powerful tool to understand and solve environmental problems. This field offers the opportunity to work on an international scale, contributing to improving the environment in struggling countries. Moreover, it addresses crucial issues such as the impact of climate change on global health and immigration, a topic close to my heart. I am driven by the desire to leverage this knowledge to make a meaningful contribution to environmental protection, human health, and addressing global challenges.

My alignment with the philosophy of the FHT is profound, sharing the belief that aid, mutual support, and humanity are essential driving forces to enhance our world. Ι am a doctor from Volos, Greece, and currently working as a junior consultant in Visceral Surgery in the Geneva University Hospitals. Thanks to the help of the Hubert Tuor Foundation, I obtained an important financial support, so as to accomplish a clinical fellowship in the Colorectal Unit of the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.

After finishing my basic surgical training in Switzerland, in the Hospitals of Geneva and Neuchatel, I have decided to pursue my medical career by adhering to the sub-specialisation of Coloproctology and especially, Pelvic Floor Surgery. The diversity of pathological entities that it englobes, the numerous patients currently suffering and consulting as well as the practically rapid and efficient amendment of symptoms and amelioration of quality of life are the primordial reasons that led me towards this decision. My ultimate goal is to have the possibility to work as a pelvic floor specialist surgeon in Switzerland after the fulfilment of my fellowship, having the ability to apply in practice all the state-of-the art techniques and knowledge that I will acquire in Edinburgh, as well as to teach novel procedures in new-generation Swiss surgeons.

My intermediate goals upon completion of this fellowship are the possibility to obtain the title of “Fellow of the European Board of Coloproctology” as well as the production of scientific articles for publications in collaboration between the two Units (Geneva and Edinburgh). Finally, having the possibility to teach and transmit the acquired knowledge to the next generation is of paramount significance for me, as it guarantees the continuum and constant.

I am pleased to begin my career as a doctor in the emergency department of the Valais hospital in Sion, after obtaining my medical degree at the University of Geneva. The Hubert Tuor Foundation allows me to combine my training as a doctor with research activity, through support for my PhD project in biomedical sciences with a focus on medical education, which I am conducting in collaboration with the Medical Education Research Unit at the University of Geneva. This PhD project focuses on improving the teaching and learning of clinical reasoning and is carried out for the benefit of medical students at our faculty. Passionate about medicine, with the goal of becoming a specialist in internal medicine at the University Hospitals of Geneva, and about teaching, with the goal of teaching within our Faculty, I thank the Hubert Tuor Foundation for allowing me to flourish and build my career simultaneously in these two fields.

I am extremely proud to join the community of the Hubert Tuor Foundation, where ambition, transmission, and excellence seem to be the key words. In 2009, I joined the Lullier school of horticulture, this training turned out to be one of the experiences that enriched me the most. I was taught the art of fruit production, and in particular the patience necessary for the growth of plants. Above all, I learned about the life and develop my wisdom.

After graduating in 2013, I worked for several years as a tree climber. Nevertheless, I was thirsty to learn and educate myself. Therefore, in 2016, I decided to undertake a new training. I first completed a professional maturity, then I studied agricultural engineering at the Geneva University of applied sciences and engineering (hepia).

During my studies at hepia, I quickly developed a passion for statistics, and I understood that they were applied in all fields. Statistics allow us to extract information from the data, to assess its plausibility and ultimately to make decisions. Therefore, during my training, I decided to take the time to study this subject in more depth.

Today, I have this enormous chance to have been accepted into a distinguished master’s degree at the forefront of its field in biostatistics at the University Catholique of Louvain. I have the opportunity to undertake studies in the school that interests me the most and in a country that I do not know. However, the tuition fees and the temporary move have a high cost, however thanks to the support of the Hubert Tuor Foundation I will be able to undertake this project. More than just a scholarship, I feel that joining the 242 network is a real opportunity because the foundation advocates values in which I firmly believe.

Currently a master’s student in physics at the University of Geneva, thanks to the Hubert Tuor Foundation, I obtained a scholarship to support my master’s degree in nuclear and corpuscular physics. The latter will allow me to focus on my studies in order to carry out my master’s project without financial difficulty.

After interrupting my studies in Cameroon at the University of Douala where I obtained a university degree in technology in thermal engineering and energy. Arrived in Geneva a few years ago where I was able to obtain a bachelor’s degree in physics; I dare to believe that this scholarship is for me an opportunity to do in the field that I have always dreamed of.

My master’s project will be on Proton therapy which is a radiotherapy technique aimed at destroying cancer cells by irradiating them with a beam of particles; my goal will be to master the fundamental principle of this technique and to know which are the most effective nuclear particles to this technique.

Today, member of the 242 community; I am committed to transmitting the values of the FHT, to inverting my time for future generations and promoting the events of the foundation in order to ensure a good continuity of the foundation.

I am a student in Medicine at the University of Geneva. Following my Bachelor’s project and my Master’s thesis, I have developed a strong interest in global health, and I intend to work in this field in parallel to my clinical work.

In order to develop the statistical and epidemiological skills necessary to work in population health, I will spend a year in London, thanks to the financial support of the Hubert Tuor Foundation, to follow a Master’s degree in Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. This university is internationally renowned for the quality of its teaching, its innovative research projects, and its presence on the humanitarian scene.

My main research interest is the impact of lifestyle factors, and in particular physical activity, on chronic non-communicable diseases. I hope to contribute throughout my career to the development of public prevention measures for cardiovascular diseases, which represent the first cause of mortality and morbidity in Switzerland and around the world. Furthermore, I have a strong interest in the epidemiology of neglected tropical diseases and will have the opportunity to train in mathematical modelling of infectious diseases during the upcoming year.

In parallel to my studies, I have worked at the University of Geneva as an assistant in anatomy, clinical skills and for the UDREM (Unit of Development and Research in Medical Education). Passionate about teaching, I will stay involved in medical education once I finish my studies.

I am excited to join the 242 Scholars network and look forward to meeting its other members. I would like to express my immense gratitude to the Hubert Tuor Foundation for this opportunity.

I am a PhD candidate in Biology at the University of Geneva since 2017. In 2020 I took part of the “PhD Booster”, an initiative of the Faculty of Medicine which promotes fundamental biomedical research. Even though it is constantly paving the path of all new therapeutic strategies, fundamental research is often unknown to the public. As a finalist, I was able to spread a little bit of my work and received a grant from the Hubert Tuor Foundation.

Passionate about Human Biology since I was a kid, I naturally chose to pursuit a research career after my Master degree. Thanks to the support of the foundation, I will be able to present my work in an international congress, where hundreds of renown scientists will be present. This will give me the opportunity to meet and discuss with experts in my field.

Currently, I would like to work closer to the therapeutic/clinical field and thanks to the support of the foundation, I was also able to start an accreditation that will allow me to support medical teams in clinical research. I also recently received the Faculty of Medicine award for the best 2021 thesis.

I am happy to join the 242 community. I had the opportunity during my studies to guide, help and support students, both in teaching or through the student’s association. I look forward to get involved and committing myself to the foundation, in order to exchange and share experiences with other members.

Thanks to the support of the Hubert Tuor Foundation I will have the opportunity to deepen my knowledge in spine surgery through 1-year fellowship program at the Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute in Milan, Italy. The training focus of this year will be the treatment of spinal degenerative deformity and will begin in August 2021. Parallel to the clinical activity I will lead a research project investigating the functional outcomes of patients undergoing surgery for degenerative scoliosis.

I am a Swiss board certified orthopaedic and trauma surgeon. After completing my medical education in Italy, I moved to Switzerland and entered the residency program in orthopaedic and trauma surgery, training in Locarno, Bellinzona, Zürich, Lugano and Basel. I currently work as a junior attendant in the Spine Unit of the University Hospital Basel. My interest in spine surgery started soon after beginning my residency. During the following years I had the opportunity to focus on the treatment of both pediatric and adult spine deformities, which is the field that passionate me the most and on which I want focus my clinical and research activity.

To further improve my surgical and clinical skills, I have applied to the international 1-year fellowship program in spine deformities of the GSpine4 unit at the Galeazzi Orthopaedic Institute, in Milan, Italy, This is a unique opportunity to broaden my knowledge and improve my surgical skills in adult deformity surgery, lateral accesses and minimally invasive procedures, and to implement them once back in Basel.

I strongly believe that this training program will greatly impact my future career, not only by providing me the opportunity to learn from worldwide experts in this field but also by allowing me to expand my research and increase my scientific output, which is a prerequisite for pursuing an academic career once back in Switzerland.

This year will be a further challenge for me and my family, both financially and logistically but we are all ready and committed to making it a successful year. It’s hard to describe the gratitude we have towards the Hubert Tuor Foundation. Their support is essential to make year abroad possible and therefore I will be happy to collaborate with enthusiasm to the 2-day 4 2-tomorrow (242) mission of the foundation by strengthening its network and putting affords in the development of future projects.

I am a doctor, doing my residency in Urology, in Geneva University Hospitals, and Alumni of Geneva University’s Medical School, where I did my studies. Thanks to Hubert Tuor’s Foundation, I received the missing financial support for one year of surgical formation abroad, to improve my knowledge and surgical skills.

I hope to do an academic career at Geneva University Hospital and want to specialize in onco-urology. Onco-urology focuses on the treatment of urologic cancer, such as cancers of the prostate, the bladder, and the kidney among others and is often a long journey because of its complexity. I decided to widen my training, during my residency, in Grenoble University Hospitals, which is a recognized center for its surgical teaching and advanced technologies, especially in the minimally invasive technics, such as robotic surgery. This year of formation will help me acquire solid knowledge and competences, to allow a further Fellowship in the years to come.

I am also very interested in clinical research, especially robotic surgery, on which I am currently writing a doctorate thesis. I had the occasion to publish different articles in international medical journals since the beginning of my formation. I keep increasing my knowledge and recently obtained a Certificate of Advanced Studies in patient-oriented clinical research.

Passionate about education, and knowledge transmission in medicine, I developed with an innovative platform to share medical knowledge with two colleagues, which is used daily by hundreds of users in Geneva University Hospital and Geneva University, and recently received the Credit Suisse Award for Best Teaching of Geneva University.

In 2009, I was still very young when I realized the Swiss personality elected “Man of the Year” was not Federer but a doctor, Dr. René Prêtre. I took a closer look at this exceptional man and the career of this man who saves children’s hearts. He inspired me and was certainly at the origin of my vocation for medicine.

More convinced than ever, I began my medical studies in 2017. I was finishing my Bachelor’s degree when the covid-19 crisis sprang up.

For me, this pandemic was an enriching experience. It allowed me to put my new skills to good use as well as to get involved by taking an active part in concrete actions.

A amazing wave of solidarity broke over Geneva for a few months and, as a future doctor, I immediately became aware of my part of responsibility. I wanted to act rather than undergo, by taking part in the voluntary actions that were set up during this pandemic.

Today, I am more convinced than ever of the principle of solidarity, which is the basis of the FHT philosophy: helping today to make tomorrow a better world.

I fully adhere to the principle of Platform 242, which gather FHT scholarship holders, around a community network to facilitate proactive exchanges. I am happy to see that among the 242, the number of doctors (or future doctors) continues to grow and by joining this community, I wish to participate in the development of exchange platforms, particularly in the field of mentoring,

My goal would be to bring the Project 242 what it was meant to be: an incredible opportunity to realize one’s dream.

I was awarded the 242 scholarship from the Hubert Tuor Foundation to cover my tuition and expenses related to my enrollment in the combined Fellowship and Master of Education and Leadership in the Health Professions at Johns Hopkins University, USA. As a young medical doctor, graduate from Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva and a computer science major, I aspire to pursue an academic career in the Geneva University Hospitals (HUG) as well as in the University of Geneva as an attending physician in the Anesthesiology Division while holding a dual specialty in both Anesthesiology and General Internal Medicine.

Extremely passionate by education, specifically regarding clinical skills teaching, the scholarship granted by the generous Hubert Tuor Foundation will allow me to achieve formal skills in the field of education, to perfect my research skills and evidence-based methodology and will give me the necessary tools to form and supervise a research group. Moreover, the scholarship will allow me to establish networking opportunities and scientific collaborations between the Faculty of Medicine of the UNIGE and the prestigious Faculty of Medicine of Johns Hopkins University.

Thanks to the precious support from the FHT I will have the necessary funding and tools to combine both my medical knowledge as well as my computer science skills to try and help our medical faculty and our future doctors to be better prepared for the challenges of the future by pursuing my research projects concerning the integration of technology and innovation in pre and post-graduate medical education.

The Hubert Tuor Foundation offered me a grant for my studies of Master of Science – Chemical Biology at the University of Geneva. I arrived to Geneva after interrupting my undergraduate studies in Chemistry at Aleppo University due to the war. In Switzerland, I learned french and passed the exams ECUS (Complementary examination of the Swiss higher education institutions) to restart my studies. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry at the University of Geneva.

My passion for science and my will to pursue in academia pushed me to start the interdisciplinary master program in Chemical Biology.

My objective is to become an active researcher in the field of chemical synthesis of complex molecules that interact in living systems, as well as biochemical studies that allows better understanding of biological functions.

Automation, if properly used, has the potential to dramatically improve our everyday lives. It could preserve us from dangerous and strenuous tasks, or simply make impossible things until now become a reality. One of the major challenges to make our robots intelligent is to give them the ability to perceive and understand the environment around them. It is a fascinating challenge to which I wish to devote my studies and my career.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) is responsible for many advances in this area, which have allowed, for example, the deployment of the Curiosity rover on Mars. It is an exceptional place to do research in robotics with many impacts on future technologies. Thanks to the generous support of the Hubert Tuor Foundation, I will be able to complete my EPFL Master with an internship in this inspiring environment. During my stay, I will contribute to algorithms that will allow a team of robots to collaborate and locate themselves in complex underground environments.

It is an honor to join the Foundation’s 242 community, whose members have exciting and promising backgrounds and projects. I find myself perfectly aligned with the values of sharing, coaching, and exchange put forward by the Foundation. Indeed, during my studies, I had the chance to stand by these ideas several times, either by participating in the EPFL coaching association, or by being a teaching assistant for six classes. These experiences have strengthened my desire and motivation to continue my engagement in programs that promote exchanges and support, which are beneficial to everyone involved. Through the Hubert Tuor Foundation, I have been able to continue my medical studies at the University of Geneva. Having difficulty reconciling these intensive studies with extracurricular work, this bursary has allowed me to have not only financial but also psychological stability. Thanks to this help, I was able to appreciate my studies much better and be invested fully in them. The FHT has also helped me a lot to raise my awareness and have new perspectives, goals and objectives in order to enrich my university curriculum as much as possible. I am a Swiss board certified gynecologist. I completed my medical education at the University of Lausanne and obtained my doctoral thesis at the University of Zurich. My main clinical and research interest is breast cancer treatment. I am particularly interested in the de-escalation of axillary surgery and the clinical management and epidemiology of breast cancer in young women.

In 2018, I completed a certificate in advanced studies in breast cancer organized by the European School of Oncology (ESO) and the University of Ulm, Germany.  To deepen my knowledge in biostatistics and epidemiology I am currently doing a Master in Public Health (MPH) at Harvard University. I am also an active member of the European Society of Surgical Oncology Young Surgeon and Alumni Club (EYSAC) and I am particularly interested in promoting high quality education in breast surgical oncology.

After obtaining the board certification in gynecology at the University Hospital of Basel, I worked in the Breast Surgery division of the same hospital. In July 2019 I joined the Breast surgery Department at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in New York, where I am currently doing a research fellowship. Thanks to the support of the FHT, I will be able to continue my research activity as well as my clinical training at this worldwide renowned institution. Clinicians often struggle to find financial support to go abroad for clinical and research training. By allowing young doctors to deepen their background and acquire further experience, the FHT is contributing to improve clinical care in Switzerland and abroad.

By pursuing an academic career, I hope to improve patient care and help establish training programs in Europe, so that every woman suffering from breast cancer can be treated by specialists trained and accredited in breast surgical oncology.

During my studies, I thought a great deal about my various options and the next steps to take in my career. What were the most flourishing scientific fields? What were the most cutting-edge research projects of the moment? Which universities and countries favoured which type of research field? Was it better to move directly on to a PhD, or to begin with a work placement?

At that time, I would very much have liked to receive feedback from students more advanced than me and to talk to them about their choices and experiences. That was how I came up with the idea of creating the 2day 4 2morrow platform: bringing together recipients of the FHT grant in a community network that would allow them to make direct contact and engage in proactive, relevant discussions. Thanks to my experience in English-speaking countries, I realised that in an academic career, networks and human relations are just as important as academic performance. As in many fields, and contrary to certain received ideas, the scientific field also follows this rule. Recommendations, acquaintances and the support of professors and students remain essential. That marked the beginning of 242, which today is a close-knit and unified community on-hand to offer mutual advice and support!

I am very proud of the FHT’s involvement in this field and the support it gives to its 242 in the form of a grant and a discussion platform, so that students can pursue their studies, their passion and their dreams, whether for a Master’s degree or a PhD.

My time at swissnex Boston was an amazing experience that I truly enjoyed. I met many wonderful people and learned a lot in many ways – despite (or maybe also because of) the coronavirus difficulties. In the end even a startup resulted from my time in Boston.

I have always been passionate about sustainability issues and emerging technologies, which made studying Environmental Engineering for my Bachelor’s degree at ETH Zurich a natural choice for me. These studies sharpened my critical thinking, gave me a solid understanding of fundamental engineering theory and taught me how to reason from first principles. Studying for a Master’s degree in Energy Science and Technology at ETH Zurich deepened these skills and complemented them with the technical, environmental, economic, and political aspects of sustainable energy systems. My Master’s degree culminated in a thesis that included the design and development of a software application that can be used as a data-driven decision tool for energy-efficient building retrofits.

During my studies I worked as the first employee in an ETH Zurich spin-off that specializes in energy consulting. My responsibilities included planning and implementing building systems for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and sanitation. This position not only allowed me to gain relevant practical experience but also instilled me with a deep fascination for entrepreneurship.

The pursuit of my passion for entrepreneurship and new technologies has led me to swissnex. swissnex is a knowledge exchange consulate initiated by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation to solidify Switzerland’s leading role in science, education and innovation. To this end, swissnex supports Swiss start-ups during their expansion into foreign markets by introducing them to a network of contacts and providing valuable advice and insights.

Thanks to the generous support of the Hubert Tuor Foundation I am able to further pursue my passion by joining swissnex Boston for a six-month internship in innovation and entrepreneurship. I am deeply grateful and proud to be provided with this opportunity and absolutely thrilled to join the 242 community. After having obtained a bachelor’s degree in french and comparative literature (School of Humanities) from the UNIGE, I decided to pursue a masters degree in digital communication starting in september 2018.

Not only did my academic education in literature help me gain a lot of knowledge in terms of textual analysis and Fine Arts Culture, but it also made me sensitive to innovation and creation. This university background serves as a base for me to be able to build my professional future in the digital world. In fact, even though the digital field can offer a wide range of unimaginable and exciting different possibilities, the new technologies need to feed from the creative imagination of an individual. Therefore, instead of seeing a dichotomy between these two fields (literature and the digital realm), I remain convinced that the ingenuity of both can stimulate each other mutually. It is in this spirit that I am building my academic and professional path.

Thanks to the Hubert Tuor Foundation, to whom I called when I was searching for a partial scholarship to fund my master’s degree, I will be able to pursue my studies in better conditions.

I obtained a 242 grant from the Hubert Tuor Foundation to cover expenses for publishing a scientific article open-access. After completing my master in biology, I did some civil service at a nature protection NGO. They had gathered an impressive amount of data but were lacking the time, skills and an impulse to analyse them properly and publish them. Fresh out of academia, I saw this as a great opportunity for collaboration and I did exactly that: I analysed the data and I published a scientific article. This was not only an excellent exercise for me, but it was also a great way to value the decades of work that were necessary to collect the data. The results have direct application for the management of wetlands and the conservation of the biodiversity that lives there. Because the results were of primary interest to nature conservation NGOs that cannot afford to subscribe to scientific journals, I wanted to publish open-access. The HTF kindly covered the fees for open access publishing, ultimately helping me to help my readers make educated management decisions.

Beyond the simple effect of this publication, this 242 grant allowed me to make a first step towards something that I am committed to: bridging academia and the real world. This first success is encouraging me to pursue in this direction and to use the skills developed while doing fundamental research for more concrete applications. In summary, the help provided by the HFT goes way beyond the one-time effect of the article I published, and I look forward to give back what I received in the form of mentoring, promoting the philanthropic values of the foundation, and more.

After obtaining a Master degree in Bioengineering from the Swiss Institute of Technology in Lausanne, I wanted to direct my career towards a more entrepreneurial direction and in particular in the management of new technologies. During my Master’s project at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, I had the chance to experience the vibrant and fascinating atmosphere of the start up hub that is the Silicon Valley; thus increasing my enthusiasm for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Passionate about innovation and technology, creative and motivated, my project is to integrate swissnex’s team-the Swiss scientific consulate based in Boston-as a junior project manager for a 6-month Entrepreneurship and Innovation program. Swissnex is an initiative of the Swiss government, whose mission is to actively contribute to strengthening Switzerland’s leadership as a global center of excellence in science, education and innovation. My mission, in particular, will be to support and advise Swiss start-ups from different backgrounds in order to help them develop in the United States’ market. Therefor, it is with great enthusiasm that I will undertake this 6-month internship at swissnex beginning March 2017, thanks to the generosity and support of the Hubert Tuor Foundation.

Thanks to the Hubert Tuor Foundation, I received the financial support I needed to complete my medical studies at the University of Lausanne. It is not easy to find a way to finance a master’s degree through student jobs in addition to medical studies with a very sustained and demanding rhythm, scientific research work and internship in a hospital. Thanks to your help, I was able to have two months of intensive work experience in the best paediatric hospital in Canada (CHU Sainte-Justine). My practical and theoretical knowledge was enriched on a daily basis through rigorous supervision by the consultants, who really added value for their students. I was lucky enough to receive a very warm welcome from them, and the fact that I would be making some reports to Switzerland meant that they were even happier to pass on their expertise to me. Montreal met all my expectations, in spite of the cold and the snow, and I really enjoyed sharing the lifestyle of the Quebecers, who were very friendly.

Thanks to your support, this unique experience provided a marvellous ending to my final year. It may have taken a year and a half to succeed in going, but it was well worth the waiting and the few sacrifices I made. I do not know how to thank you enough for contributing to it.

After a graduation in automation engineering at Politecnico di Milano, I started a career in management consulting, a completely different field that I found to be very fascinating. During these years at Deloitte Consulting I discovered a strong interest in business challenges, which is the reason why I am starting a Master of Science in management at Cass Business School (London, September 2016).

I would have never reached this important goal without Hubert Tuor Foundation. They granted me the scholarship that I needed to start this life-changing experience and I will always be grateful to them. In fact, this MSc will help me transform the factual knowledge I acquired through my work at Deloitte into a more strategic and structured way of working, with methodologies, frameworks and analytical tools that may be applied to strategy projects.

After completing my MSc course at Cass Business School, I see myself continuing my professional career in a leading strategic consulting firm in London and, in the meantime, I will surely serve the HTF with my skills and competences.

Business planning, researches, monitoring and program governance are just some consulting skills which I could “give back” to HTF. I could supervise project objectives and performance targets to ensure they are on-course; evaluate benefits and opportunities for new projects; help HTF in the recruitment process for the 242 project, or define a mentorship programme that the Foundation could offer as part of its services.

From Neil Amstrong’s walk on the Moon, photos from Mars taken by Curiosity, to the latest SpaceX rocket boosters landing on Earth, space exploration continues to inspire generations. As satellites constantly orbit our planet to enable communications and monitor our climate, it is clear that space is playing an important role for humanity. It also contains the answers to many scientific and philosophical questions, as multiple missions focus on understanding the origin of life on Earth by studying extraterrestrial bodies.

The daunting technological challenges of space robotics are also fascinating and are those that I will tackle during my internship at the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) as part of my MSc at ETH Zürich, thanks to the Hubert Tuor Foundation. As a major center for space research, JPL explored all the planets in the solar system and designed all the successfully landed rovers on Mars. I want to warmly thank the Hubert Tuor Foundation for its financial support which enables me to take part in exciting research in this unique center for space robotics research.

I am proud of joining the foundation and its community, which scientific and philanthropic projects are inspiring and help students pursue their own dreams. I want to encourage and help other students to realize theirs and feel privileged to join the 242 network. I contacted the Hubert Tuor Foundation when l was looking for funding to partially finance my internship at swissnex Boston, the Swiss Consulate of Science and Technologies located between Harvard and MIT. The HTF decided to support my project and to inaugurate a new sponsorship for newly graduated students that want to invest in a personal project complementary to studies. At Swissnex Boston I work in Entrepreneurship and Innovation with Swiss startups that want to enter the US market. In line with the vision of renewable philanthropy promoted by the HTF, I wish to “give back” the help I received by assisting the launch of the new sponsorship of the HTF with the Life Sciences department at EPFL, and by giving mentorship to students in bioengineering or in the biomedical field in general. I am very grateful for this opportunity that the HTF offers as it encourages newly graduated students to explore new professional horizons while stimulating the transmissibility of a sense of responsibility, which is the key value of the HTF.
